What’s this stuff? Fluoride

Fluoride is one of the many things used in toothpaste today to prevent decay.  In an article I read on fluoride they said that, “It reduces the ability of bacteria in plaque to generate tooth-weakening acids, and it helps re-duce those tooth areas where acid attack has already begun. Even if this does prevent our teeth from rotting, some people still don’t use it. This is so because in fluoride it could result in serious health health issues.”

I don’t think that adding fluoride to water is the best idea because of the health issues, but if it does help your teeth I would add it to some water.

Some advances in toothpaste that had to be made before fluoride could be widely used in toothpaste and mouthwashes was that it had to be combined with other elements and compounds. An example is calcium pyrophosphate. It launched this formula in 1955 as Crest and proceeded to dominate the fluoride toothpaste market for the next 10 years.

If I was effected by using fluoride in drinking water my biggest concern would be getting cancer, memory loss, or kidney damage. Cancer because that is probably the easiest way for me to die. Memory loss because I wouldn’t be able to remember some of my most happiest moments, my family, and friends (if I couldn’t remember them.) Kidney Damage because I could loose a severe amount of blood.
